“Lady Anandi is a story of my great grandfather, Madhavrao Tipnis, who was a female impersonator in Indian regional theatre in the late 1800’s. I tried looking for him in history books, in family albums, but he was absent. A forgotten figure, his presence haunts me every time I go on stage. Lady Anandi is a quirky, absurd, historical exploration of how to act like a lady in a man’s world.”
