The collective brain

In 2014, we took the initiative to the creation of the Collective Brain network, which unites independent artistic activities throughout Sweden. The initial members of the working group were Art Lab Gnesta, Galleri Syster, Galleri Verkligheten, Kultivator, Not Quite and Rejmyre Art Lab.

“The Collective Brain” is to make independent operations available and strengthen their position by sharing and refining existing knowledge and hybrid methods of working.

Small independent artistic units often take the initiative in the artistic ecosystem using rapid and hybrid methods of working and informal networks. These units also bring professional contemporary art to smaller locations in which no other contemporary art activity is in progress, through participant-based projects and a deep interest for the location. In this way, they contribute both to the artistic development and to social debate outside of the large cities.
