During the summer, a group of residents at Solbacka integration center outside Gnesta have met with the artist Gisela Tingström while working in textile techniques. The talks have often hovered around waiting – waiting for crossing dark waters, waiting for relatives left behind, waiting for asylum. Even the project itself has meant waiting: for the participants who never showed up, waiting for transportation.
The group has discussed expectations of the new life, but also what it takes to become a part of Swedish society. Someone is happy for a private room, a little pocket money and a job that involves concern for others. Others are waiting for their children and plan for a future with them. Yet others have waited to continue their old career.
Now we present the group’s work as part of Gnesta konstrunda in 2016.
