As part of the Peninsula project, we run a collective farmland at Art Lab Gnesta together with our islet neighbors. We have established this community cultivation out on the island’s desolate plot behind our old brewery house and all the pre-cultivation takes place inside our common greenhouse. It is a constant sprouting in the nursery inside the warmer greenhouse climate.
The Islet seed bank has now also opened inside the greenhouse, where neighbors, Gnesta residents and other visitors can insert and withdraw seeds as needed. The Islet seed bank, the community plantations and the entire open greenhouse function as an exercise in trust, a way of sharing resources in practice in a time marked by climate collapse and major challenges. We share seeds, plants and knowledge and hold joint meetings where we grow, ferment and eat. Outside the greenhouse, an open air grill and an root cellar are now emerging in collaboration with invited artists for further deepening and cultivation of our common crops.
